Airborne fit founder set for 250km ultramarathon

Luke Read, Founder of our on-site gym here at Brightwell Barns, Airborne Fit is embarking on his toughest fitness challenge to date this March; a 250km ultramarathon in the Sahara Desert.

The Marathon Des Sables, also known as ‘the hardest foot race on earth’ sees fearless competitors from around the world tackle the most extreme conditions, contending with dunes, dehydration and soaring temperatures spanning six days and the distance equivalent to six marathons. Put simply, this is the ultimate test of physical endurance and mental resilience known to man.

In preparation for the Marathon Des Sables in March and to raise funds and awareness for men’s mental health charity Movember, a cause close to his heart, Luke recently completed a 100km Ultramarathon here in Suffolk. His route saw him run a 10km loop ten times, beginning here at Brightwell and heading out to Melton. Starting at 5am and crossing the 100km mark at 7:30pm, Luke raised just shy of £2000 for the charity.

You’ll probably see Luke around the barns as he puts in the miles ready for Morocco. We are proud to support and sponsor Luke on his challenge. The whole of Brightwell Barns will be behind him.
